Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Department of Archeology and Museums is working on a plan to produce videos to showcase Peshawar’s historic sites abroad to attract foreign tourists and generate maximum revenue for the government.
Considering the 2500 years of documented history of Peshawar, which has many historical and archaeological monuments, the department is working on a proposal to produce a short video at the Peshawar Museum, Balahisar Fort, Gor Katri; Kissa Khwani, Chowk adadgar, Mohabat Khan, Sethi House and others are highlighting their historical importance through digital media platforms.
Known as the oldest inhabited city in South Asia, Peshawar has become the center of attention for foreign and domestic tourists due to its unique archaeological monuments and glorious history, being the custodian of eight to ten ancient civilizations such as Gandhara.
Famous for Balahisar Fort and Qissa Khwani Bazaar, Peshawar has been declared the oldest inhabited city in South Asia by the Department of Archeology and goes back to 539BC.
Assistant Director of Archeology and Museum Baghtzada Khan told APP news agency that they are working on a proposal to show this historic monument abroad through Facebook, Twitter and other social media tools to attract archeology and Ghandhara art lovers.
He said that scientific excavations of Gor Khatri have revealed that Peshawar is the oldest city in South Asia with diverse culture, language and architecture.
Gor Khatri excavations, architectural decoration, food and language revealed that Peshawar is home to eight to 10 ancient civilizations and exposure to foreign countries through social media will help foreign tourists to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said that the excavations at Gor Hatri, the deepest and largest excavations in the world, which took place over several years and were published in the British Journal of Modern World Archaeology, showed that the city of Peshawar was 20 stories long, started by the British. to the Indo-Greek era.
Excavations revealed that Peshawar was a province of the Persian Alchamenian Empire in the fourth to sixth centuries BC, and later under the influence of Mauryans, Greeks, Scythians, Kushans, Sasanians, White Huns, Ghaznavids, Slave Dynasty, Gors, Syrians. Afghan, and Mongolian.
Defeated by the Greeks and ruled by the Buddhists, Peshawar was rebuilt by the Brahmins, invaded by the Ghaznavids, captured by the Mughals, ruled by the Sikhs and successively annexed by the British.
He said that despite witnessing attacks by soldiers and kings, Peshawar has been an attractive center for tourists and traders since its inception, traveling from Afghanistan, the Central Asian republic to the Subcontinent through the historic Khyber Pass.
Qissa Khwani Bazaar remains an attractive center for international merchants and traders, who often stay here to enjoy the famous Chappli Kabab and other traditional dishes, and exchange views on each other’s culture, food, art and music before moving on to Asia. While at Qissa Khwani, international traders have a great opportunity to explore all the historic sites and buildings of Peshawar, including Seti House, Balahisar Fort, Ghanta Gar, Chowk-e-adadgar, Mohabat Khan Mosque and Peshawar Museum.
The Peshawar Museum, one of the world’s largest museums of Gandhara art, says the restoration of the British-era building has been completed and is open to the public.
According to him, the museum now has 40,000 antiques and rare artifacts besides the complete life story of Lord Buddha, which attracts foreign tourists, Buddhists and monks from all over the world.
Mohabat said that the conservation work of the historic building of Masjid Khan has been completed and efforts are being made to restore it to its original form, adding that much work has been completed on the roof and minaret, apart from the adjacent parts.
There are around 3000 historical monuments in Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera and Mardan, including 1840 ancient buildings in Peshawar.
Apart from Gor Khatri, Dalazak Tomb, Kotla Mohsin Khan, Sahi Mahuddin Tomb and Chacha Asunas Monument have been declared protected sites in Peshawar, Villa Sakhi Shah Mardan, Bejo Tomb, Kissa Khwani, Ledi Reading Hospital and others are not protected.
