Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar says constitution allows appointment of ad hoc judges, in my opinion ad hoc judges should be appointed and commented reports about extension of tenure of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa were not true.
In an interview to a private television, Law Minister Tarar said that the ad hoc judge will be appointed by the Judicial Commission and not by the CJP himself.
Tarar said he was in favor of a constitutional amendment to reform the judicial system.
Azam Nazir Tarar said that the reports of extension of the tenure of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa are not true. The minister revealed that he met the CJP in late April or early May regarding the judicial commission proceedings.
“The issue of extension was also discussed, the Chief Justice said he was not interested in extending the tenure,” he said.
Justice Mansoor said Parliament has the power to extend the tenure of the CJP.
The law minister said the reason behind the high pension bill was the debate on extending the tenure of government employees, the retirement age of government employees has increased worldwide as they pay huge amounts of money to the government in the form of pensions.
On the issue of imposition of Article 6 on PTI leaders, the Law Minister said that PTI is not calling a meeting for a no-confidence motion, the court was approached to convene a meeting of PTI leaders and if Article 6 should be imposed on PTI leaders.
“The issue of imposition could be discussed in parliament. PTI has violated the constitution by dissolving the assembly in the presence of no confidence motion, there is a real case of Article 6 on Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders.
The federal law minister further said that the court also said that Tehreek-e-Insaf had taken an unconstitutional step by dissolving the assembly, there may be a debate in the parliament regarding Article 6, where the decision last year not to ban PTI was to preserve the political environment.
