TORONTO: High-voltage action from the upcoming GT20 Canada will see Pakistan heavyweights Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi, among others, in action for the first time as the North American
Having established itself on the Canadian, North American and global cricket calendar, GT20 Canada continues to provide a huge platform to showcase the growth of the sport, especially on the back of Canada’s historic debut in the ICC T20 World Cup and some memorable performances from home-grown cricket stars.
While Afridi will bolster the Toronto Nationals along with West Indian all-rounder Romario Shepherd. Pakistan captain Azam, along with compatriots Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Rizwan, bring a wealth of experience and class to the Vancouver Knights.
The tournament will feature some of the superstars of world cricket along with the best local talent.
The play-off phase will be held from August 9, with the final scheduled for August 11.
Apart from the tournament opener, each of the next ten league matchdays will be two-legged. A total of 21 league matches will be played over 13 days, including two non-match days in between. Four playoff games will follow.
The double-header will begin with Bangla Tigers Mississauga, featuring Bangladeshi great Shakib Al Hasan, against 2023 champions Montreal Tigers, lined up by Chris Lynn, followed by some Aussie heavyweights like marquee star Brampton Wolves.
This edition of GT20 Canada will also feature the entire Canadian national team, including team captain Saad Bin Zafar, top scorer Nicholas Kirton and Aaron Johnson, who recently became the first player to score a half-century in the challenging tournament.
