BEIJING: China recorded 211 million rail passenger trips since the start of summer tourism between July 1 and 15, data from China State Railway Group Co Ltd showed on Tuesday.
Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 6.5 percent, the company said, adding that the average daily number of rail passenger journeys reached 14.03 million in the first 15 days of July.
Demand for student travel during the summer holidays, tourism and family visits is strong, according to the company, keeping rail passenger flow high.
It formulated a summer passenger transportation plan, increased transportation capacity, introduced measures to facilitate and benefit passengers, and sought to provide reliable guarantees of safe and orderly passenger travel and stable economic operation.
Summer tourism is typically a busy season for the nation’s rail system as college students return home for summer vacation, while family visits and tourist trips also increase during the season. This year’s summer tourism lasts from July 1 to August 31.
