Beijing: China has set up a special fund to provide financial support for the Three-North Shelterbelt Forest Program (TSFP), an extensive reforestation project amid ongoing efforts to combat desertification and restore ecosystems. to the public on Monday.
A total of 12 billion yuan (about 1.7 billion US dollars) has been allocated for this program from this year’s central budget and will be allocated according to need in the following years Ministry of Finance (MOF).
In addition to funds, other measures to support the program include strengthening tax financial support, directing social funds to the program and implementing preferential tax policies, according to the circular issued jointly by MOF and the National Development and Reform Council.
According to the circular, efforts will be made to control desertification in three main areas, namely the coastal area of the Yellow River, the two sandy soils of Horkin and Hunshandake, and the Hexi Corridor-Taklimakan desert area.
Launched in 1978, the TSFP aims to revive China’s northwest, north, and northeast. For many years, China has made consistent efforts to repair the ecological barrier in northern China.
During a research visit to the Northern Mongolia Autonomous Region at the end of May, Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng called for a program to combat desertification in the eastern part.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the need to focus on key projects, use effective methods of desert control in accordance with local conditions, integrate and expand desert control results, and develop the environmental sector.
