FAISALABAD: The influx of Chinese products is rapidly changing the e-commerce landscape in Pakistan as people get affordable, trendy and quality products at their fingertips through this transformation, reports WealthPK.
Adnan Masood, a software developer, told WealthPK that he used to place orders on AliExpress, a giant online store owned by a Chinese company, because the platform offered affordable, durable and quality products. He said that sourcing Chinese products was once a daunting task, but now Chinese sellers ship them easily.
“I earn a decent amount by selling Chinese products to my clients, including friends and customers,” he said.
Sharing his product sourcing strategy, Adnan said he scoured AliExpress daily for two to three hours and found trendy products, especially gadgets, as such items were in high demand in Pakistan. Chinese products are helping us boost our business, but logistics companies are hampering our efforts, he added.
Elaborating on the problem, he said that mostly dispatchers of courier companies did not deliver the parcels and returned them with false notes on the return. He said it is mandatory for dispatchers to include reasons for non-delivery of the package on the return.
Obeid Babar, who imports Chinese products while visiting China, told WealthPK that affordability and availability of Chinese goods were the key factors behind the rise of e-commerce in Pakistan.
“Customers need affordable, trendy and quality products, and Chinese manufacturers are focusing on buyers’ intentions. We import products that are in high demand,” Obeid said.
“The popularity of online marketplaces and platforms is helping Pakistani consumers to explore a huge range of Chinese products from kitchen tools to gadgets, electronics, accessories, clothing and much more. They can access these items at competitive prices,” he added.
Zain Malik, a digital marketing expert, also earns a decent amount monthly by running a product-related ad campaign on social media.
In an interview with WealthPK, he said the availability of Chinese products is encouraging digital shopping behavior. Pakistan is yet to tap into the potential of e-commerce as lack of trust prevents consumers from placing orders online. He said scores of people had cheated consumers and this happened because the country lacked an active body to catch the fraudsters.
“Believe it or not, the existence of Chinese items is visibly shaping Pakistan’s economy, daily life and also infrastructure,” Zain Malik said.
Just log on to any major e-commerce platform and you’re bound to find Chinese items, which have become a major source of growth in the e-commerce industry, he said, adding that the affordability of Chinese products is attractive for the price. conscious consumers.
Sharing his experience with WealthPK, Hamid Mehmood, an avid online shopper, said he hesitated to order online due to the high prices of the products. However, with the influx of Chinese products, he not only bought but also sold items, including toys.
“I post videos and pictures of toys to attract my customers online. I calculate the price, add my profit and then upload the videos online to sell,” Hamid said.
Obeid Babar said that Chinese manufacturers offer a huge range of products, which is the driving force behind the success of online sales in Pakistan. Chinese products satisfy the needs of consumers, thanks to which Chinese entrepreneurs strengthen their business in Pakistan and in the world.
