ISLAMABAD: The Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) ruling regarding the PTI’s intra-party polling and bat symbol award was challenged by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday.
The decision was made during a meeting held here to discuss the PTI’s intra-party polling and the bat emblem that was awarded by the Peshawar High Court (PHC).
During its meeting, the highest electoral body resolved to appeal the PHC verdict to the Supreme Court. It was requested of the legal team to draft the petition for submission to the Supreme Court.
The PHC decided on Wednesday that it was unlawful for ECP to declare PTI’s intra-party polls void. Additionally, the court ordered the ECP to assign the party a bat emblem. It also mandated that PTI’s certificate be posted on the election commission’s website.
According to Ali Zafar, the PTI’s attorney, there would be a contempt of court if the ECP did not reinstate the party’s bat emblem. If the highest electoral authority contested the ruling at the highest court, he declared his party prepared to defend the case.
With the exception of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is running in the general elections of 2024, political parties were given election symbols earlier on Tuesday by the Pakistani Election Commission.
Details show that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Nazriati) was given a batsman, the Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPP-P) was given an arrow, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) was given a tiger, and the Pakistan Muslim League (Jinnah) was given a bicycle.
