The federal government has decided to strike another electric bombshell on the nation even though it should be concentrating on the general elections so that the people are being burdened to fulfill the agreements that have been made due to that anxiety has increased in masses.
The bad news for the voters who supported their parties in the general elections is that preparations have been made to drop another bomb on the people burdened by inflation and heavy electricity bills. Nepra have submitted a request for the quarterly adjustment of October to December 2023, in which a request has been made to increase the cost of electricity for the whole country.
This will definitely be implemented, i.e. the general elections and the establishment of a new government that can even give another electric shock. It should be remembered that among the contenders for the formation of the next government PPP and Muslim League (N) have promised to give 300 units of free electricity to the people and give jobs but they did not explained what steps will be taken so that the people do not have to collect huge electricity and gas bills to pay off these debts.
It should be remembered that two weeks ago huge natural gas bills were sent to the people, for which the people are still struggling to get it fixed. The sad thing is that ever since the caretaker prime minister has taken over he has been singing the same tune that he and his team do not want to put more burden on the people but till now under his supervision the electricity prices have been increased many times has increased, so the government does not have any program to give relief to the people. The economic system of the country has been left at the mercy of the international financial institutions, while even more unkindness is that all the political system of our country.
The parties also do not have any program for the welfare of the people, which can be implemented to reduce their problems. On the other hand there is a possibility of an increase in the prices of petroleum from February 1. According to the news reported in the media, the caretaker government may increase the price of petrol from February 1.
The government in its last adjustment of POL prices from October 1 It may increase prices by Rs 7.85 per liter and high-speed diesel by Rs 2.06 per liter. The price hike in the first 15 days of next month is mainly due to Israel’s constant attacks on Palestinians in Gaza and Houthi attacks on commercial ships. The reason is said to be tension in the Middle East.
International markets reacted strongly to the attacks on ships, which led to a rise in prices. Motor petrol in the international market rose to $6 per barrel from January 16, 2024, and diesel to $3.7 per barrel as international Companies have increased their premium on motor spirit and high speed diesel has increased substantially.
