The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently announced the squad for the 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, which includes six players from the Indian team.
Rohit Sharma and Co lifted the T20 World Cup trophy after 17 years on Saturday after beating South Africa by seven runs in the final in Barbados.
In addition, this team can place six players in this year’s tournament team.
These players include Sharma as captain, player of the tournament Jasprit Bumrah, striker Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Adadav, Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel.
The team also includes three players from Afghanistan: Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Rashid Khan and Fazalhaq Farooqui. West Indies’ Nicolas Pooran and Australia’s Marcus Stoinis complete the XI with South African pacer Henrich Northje as the 12th man.
It should be noted that Rohit announced his retirement from T20I along with veteran batsman Virat Kohli after the historic win.
For India, it was their second T20 World Cup victory, beating Pakistan in the final in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 (the first edition of the competition).
This year’s T20 World Cup also ended India’s trophy drought as they lifted the last ICC trophy in 2013 when they lifted the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni.
