Islamabad: The Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court has convened a full court session today (Tuesday) to discuss the letter issue of six IHC judges.
A full court hearing will be held at 2:30 p.m. The Islamabad High Court Chief Justice sought suggestions from all judges, including district and assembly courts.
The development came after six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) leveled allegations of obstruction of justice by state intelligence agencies.
Chief Justice Kazi Faez Isa, in response to a letter on March 27, suggested that the Supreme Court could be a full bench.
Supreme Court Justice Yahya Afridi recused himself suo moto from a letter written by six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
Supreme Court Bar Association Position
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court Bar Association demanded a transparent and fair investigation into the case interference letter of six Supreme Court judges.
The petitioner prayed to the high court to take action against the accused for influencing the court.
The petition stated that the issue raised by the judge was a serious one. “If the apex court deems it necessary, it should refer the matter to the Supreme Judicial Council for review,” he said.
The petitioner argued that an independent judiciary is the guardian of the Constitution and the only source of justice. Any compromise on judicial independence is not acceptable under any circumstances.
How it started
On March 25, six judges of the Islamabad High Court wrote to the Supreme Judicial Council about “interference in the judicial process by intelligence agencies”.
The Supreme Court took suo moto notice earlier this month and said a full bench would be constituted to hear the matter. Earlier, the federal government had set up a one-man investigation team which failed to initiate any case due to the refusal of former Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani.
