The case proceedings against former prime minister Imran Khan were halted on December 14 after the Islamabad High Court granted his appeal against the in-camera trial of the cipher case against him.
As per Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb’s ruling, the stay order in the cipher case has also been suspended by the Islamabad High Court.
On December 28, the trial of the cipher case at the trial court was postponed by the Islamabad High Court.
The court asked Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan during Thursday’s sessions if he wanted the proceedings to be backdated. If so, he said, it should start from the date the order was passed.
According to Justice Aurangzeb, a formal order will be made in this regard as well.
The prosecution would start the in-camera procedures over, the AGP promised the court. He continued by saying that they were prepared to record the 13 witnesses’ comments once more.
Thus, the court removed the stay order against the cipher trial after receiving assurances from AGP Awan.
The continuing trial of former prime minister Imran Khan in the cipher case was placed on hold until January 11 by the IHC on December 28.
A plea challenging Imran Khan’s and PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi’s indictment in the cipher case was heard by the high court. The PTI had contested the December 12 order of the trial court to indict Imran Khan.
The order for today’s hearing was made by Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb.
The case’s proceedings have been halted until January 11 after the court approved the request for an emergency stay order on the cipher trial. Regarding this, the court sent a notice to the federal government and mandated that all required paperwork be turned in for the upcoming hearing.
