ISLAMABAD: Five policemen, including the SHO of Margalla Police Station, were suspended by the Islamabad police on Sunday, the day after a “mistaken” raid at the home of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
According to The News, a special unit of the Islamabad police raided the Barrister’s home on Saturday in the F/7-2 neighborhood of Islamabad in order to apprehend the fugitives linked to the unrest on May 9 and other anti-state actions.
According to Barrister Gohar’s relatives, the police mistreated his family, broke things, and stole his laptop, cell phone, and important documents.
Police stormed Barrister Gohar’s house as he was arguing for the PTI’s election emblem. The event has also caused alarm for Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, who has instructed the additional attorney general (AGP) to investigate.
According to the capital police’s statement today, at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, the local police arrived at F-7/2 with the intention of apprehending a declared offender who had been tipped off by an informant.
The statement further stated that the raiding police party returned right away after learning that Barrister Gohar lived in the aforementioned house.
The Islamabad Capital City Police Officer (ICCPO) was called by CJP Isa, who also issued an order to look into the situation. “The honourable court directed the ICCPO to personally hear the grievance of Chairman PTI about the incident,” it added.
According to the statement, the PTI leader was given the assurance that if any police officer was found guilty, disciplinary action would be taken.
As an inquiry officer, the DPO city has been assigned the task of conducting a fact-finding investigation into the problem and providing a comprehensive report in a maximum of three days.
“Five cops, including SHO Margalla, have been suspended until further instructions following a preliminary inquiry. Strict action will be taken against the officials who broke the law, and an investigation is underway.
