The economic conditions of the country are so worse that for ordinary citizens to get their children higher or secondary education impossible right now. That is the reason why most of the parents are sending their children to work after completing their studies till Inter.
Due to the increase in fees of the government and non-government educational institutions or universities, getting medical or engineering education has become a dream for middle and lower middle class.
To study the higher education system of the country a 25-member committee has been formed on the instructions of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. According to the report of a well-known news group, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar as the convener of the Medical Education Committee. Other members of the committee include Prime Minister Law Minister Nazir Tarar, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Health Affairs Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed and MNA Nafisa Shah and other concerned officers and vice chancellors of universities are included. According to the government notification, the committee will review the quality of public and private medical colleges and universities. It will consider the situation of the medical colleges and the challenges they face and then also give their suggestions regarding the solution of the problems of the medical colleges.
Remember that the committee members will review the shortage of admission seats in public and private medical colleges and universities. It will consider the gap between demand and supply of medical education and prepare an action plan related to medical education.
According to the notification, the committee will also recommend a policy regarding admissions in foreign medical colleges and the number of people going abroad for medical education. The committee will review and submit its report on medical education to the Prime Minister in 10 days.
This is an excellent initiative on the part of the government but the news that has come out has limited the committee to examining the quality of education in the medical field. It does not includes engineering and other fields, especially there is no mention of revising the hugely fees charged by the above mentioned universities.
It should be remembered that the fees of the medical field have increased so much that it is now becoming difficult for intelligent students belonging to the middle class to get a MBBS or a BS degree. Despite having the ability they are forced to leave their education incomplete and help their parents. Therefore, it is necessary that the said committee should not only review the quality of education in the medical department but also includes other departments and also review the fees structure of the government, semi-government and private educational institutions or universities, against which there are protests in the universities but it is not being revised.
The main reason being that most of the universities are not meeting their expenses, which pressure is being put on the students in the form of fees. This problem has been going on for many decades but till now no political or non-political government has paid attention to it which is adversely affecting the education rate of the country. It should be remembered that most of the country’s population consists of middle lower class and people living below the poverty line from which most of the talent of our country comes out but the quality of education is poor as well as its bad delivery. It is quite expensive which is affecting the rate of education badly. On the other hand, it is also a fact that the majority of the country’s population consists of 16 to 28-year-old youth, who are 66 percent of the country’s population, on whom the doors of education have been closed due to inflation.
Therefore, it is necessary that in this committee established under the supervision of the federal government, not only the quality of the universities should be reviewed but also the fees charged in these institutions should be reviewed and any institution Fees should fixed according to the standards. So that the doors of higher education can be opened for the children of ordinary citizens. If the government wants to improve the quality in education sector, then it is imperative to give the citizens more access towards affordable education.
