ISLAMABAD: Former Chairman of the Staff Committee, General (R) Ehsan Ul Haq said on Thursday that Pakistan should re-examine its policy options and try to explore new dimensions of more independent engagement at the foreign policy level.
He delivered an excellent lecture on “Emerging Global Realities: Implications for Regional Politics and Security Dynamics in South Asia” at the Islamabad Institute of Policy Research (IPRI) here.
General (Sundanese) Ehsan said that the regional dynamics are now and the new reality creates a challenge. “Pakistan’s strategic position is a source of strength and poses challenges,” he said.
He is looking forward to the new production order, saying that China plays an important role in the region and beyond.
However, he said, the special understanding and strategic cooperation with Beijing is not up for debate or criticism.
He said relations with the United States and China should be free of bilateralism, and ruled out the possibility of being a mediator between the two superpowers.
He said the new measures and the rise of China opened more avenues for Washington to “melt down”.
The former chairman of the staff committee said there was a need to “save the house” and look at a change of government in 2022 as the world emerges from the pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict emerges. .
He said there was no “discretion” at the time and that the internal turmoil of the past two years needed resolution.
To a question, General Ehsan said he was optimistic and hoped India-Pakistan relations would improve. He said that a number of currents will force the third dispensation of Narendra Modi to reach an agreement on the state of Pakistan.
He said that the idea of Indian hegemony was behind mistrust and racism and was detrimental to the peace and security of the region.
He said that the world is falling apart and the world is moving towards multi-polarity.

He also pointed out that the war in Ukraine has escalated from the American point of view, saying that he now believes that President Putin has no place to work and that Russia is in a difficult situation.
He said that the US policy containing China and the active Indo-Pacific strategy, AUKUS and QUAD, as well as the National Security Doctrine are examples.
“The US sees China as a threat and wants to limit its influence in terms of technology and economy,” General Ehsan said.
Even Western allies are looking to China for economic incentives, he said, citing “geo-economics, technology and population” as tools for change.
At the G20 summit, he said that the idea of a giant corridor from Europe to India via the Middle East ignores the reality of ongoing conflicts and economic recession.
He called for good relations with Afghanistan and said that this should not be an apology. He said Pakistan’s security is closely related to peace in Afghanistan.
He also said that the Taliban government does not want to hold the TTP and this has become the cause of all the security problems.
