Peshawar: Students from various educational institutions visited Radio Pakistan Peshawar, which was burnt down by insurgents on May 9 last year, and lit a candle there.
Public and private school students expressed their solidarity with the staff and management of the national broadcaster and Associated Press Pakistan (APP). On May 10, 2023, the APP office on the fourth floor of the PBC building was torched and set on fire by a violent mob.
On Wednesday morning, students gathered at the Sir Shahibzada Abdul Qayyum Hall of Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) and lit candles to banish the worst memories of the May 9 incident. PBC, APP office, government and security agencies strongly condemned the spill and demanded strict punishment to the culprits, facilitators and perpetrators.
Wajihullah Khan, a student of Army Public School, Peshawar, said that May 9, 2023 is the darkest day in the history of the country because on this day, the rebels attacked PBC, APP, Jinnah House, government and national monuments.
He said the attack on the PBC and APP offices was an attempt to silence the media and deprive them of reliable education and information.
Other students like Mudassir Ali and Ajlal Shah said it was sad to see the burnt National Broadcasting Corporation building now in a heap, with ash and windows and doors.
Rare drama and music scripts and national television tapes were also burned in the attack. They said that such incidents were very unfortunate and demanded strict punishment for the perpetrators and facilitators so that no one would commit such illegal acts in future.
Earlier, school students visited Radio Pakistan Peshawar with candles and flowers on Thursday morning. Pakistan Zindabad and Pakistan Army carry slogans full of Zindabad.
The national anthem was played and special prayers were offered for the development and security of the country.
The students were shown the building of Radio Pakistan which was burnt by the PBC organization and were told about the tragic incident that took place on 9th May. They also expressed solidarity with PBC Peshawar staff in this regard.
