RAWALPINDI: Wicket batsman Mohammad Rizwan will play a key role in the national T20I squad, with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) likely to appoint him as vice-captain, according to Geo News.
Rizwan became the vice-captain when Shaheen Afridi was appointed captain last year.
However, the PCB has delayed the announcement of the vice-captain after appointing Babar Azam as the white-ball team chairman.
The decision to appoint Rizwa as vice-captain, who is currently busy playing the T20I series against New Zealand, may be announced soon.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s squad for T20I duties against Ireland and England and the World Cup later this year will be announced after the ongoing series against New Zealand.
According to sources, 17-18 members will be named for the upcoming matches.
The last day to submit a team for the T20 World Cup is May 1, but changes can be made up to the 25th of the following month. Any changes to the squad after that will require the approval of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Before the series against Ireland, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will hold a short camp for the national team.
Pakistan team will play three T20Is against Ireland and four against England next month.
Pakistan team will travel from England to USA before T20 World Cup.
The Pakistan men’s team coaching staff will be announced after the series against New Zealand.
