ISLAMABAD: The National Electricity Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a hike of $3.32 in electricity prices due to fuel cost adjustment.
The notice issued by the authority said that the amendment was made in May 2024 and the additional amount will be recovered in the July electricity bill.
This amendment will not apply to K-Electric and Lifeline customers
Meanwhile, Nepra has reduced electricity tariff by $1.67 for K-Electric customers due to fuel adjustment for April 2024.
However, the revised amendment will not apply to customers who consume 300 units per month.
A day earlier, the federal ministry had approved a significant increase in the basic electricity tariff in line with the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund for the rescue package.
The Federal Cabinet has approved the tariff increase proposed by the National Electricity Regulatory Authority (Nepra), which means that consumers will pay an average of $5.72 through their monthly bills.
Therefore, the average cost of electricity is now set to $35.50 per unit, effective July 1, compared to the previous rate of $29.78 per unit.
