KHYBER: People from different walks of life said “No” to narcotics, an awareness session held in Landi Kotal press club, district Khyber on Friday.
The wellbeing activity was initiated under the banner of Colombo Plan and besides the country director of the organization and Chief of Smart Foundation Muhammad Ayub,Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid, Station House Officer(SHO), Landi Kotal police station Amjad Afridi,President Anjuman-e-Tajeran Landi Kotal Bazaar Yad Wazir Shinwari number of councillors,and member of the civil were among the participants.
Speaking on the occasion Muhammad Ayub said that being a transit route, Khyber is the one of most drug affected districts.
Supply reduction narcotics is the duty of security agencies however through their efforts can decrease demand for drugs.
He went on that youth is the main portion of society who have been involved in the curse and bad company is considered, a main cause of it.
Drug addiction is a disease and drug addicts should be dealt with as patients, he added and said proper treatment needs to be given to them.
He further added that awareness sessions and counselling is necessary to conscious the youth community of bad consequences of drugs.
Approximately three thousands drug affectees have been treated in Peshawar therefore he urged the participants to demand the provincial government to set up a rehabilitation center in Khyber for the cure of the drug addicts.
Tehsil Chairman Shah Khalid said that it is the duty of parents to have a close check on their children and restrain them from bad companies.
He maintained that smugglers should be discouraged and with join efforts we can get rid of the curse.
SHO, Landi Kotal police station Amjad Afridi assured that effective initiatives will be adapted to curtain drug dealing and peddling in the area.
The participants demanded that the authorities concerted to take concrete steps to curtain drug, peddling, dealing and consumption in the area.
