Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has asked for an early termination of the transit trade agreement with Turkmenistan to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two brotherly countries. Once signed, the agreement will help expand trade, develop regional connectivity and increase economic activity in the region, he said.
The President expressed this thought while speaking with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Pakistan, Mr. Atadjan Movlamov. The Ambassador congratulated the President on his second term.
Welcoming the ambassador, the President said that due to centuries-old historical, religious, and cultural relations, Pakistan attaches great importance to bilateral relations with Turkmenistan and wants to develop high-level exchanges to give new impetus to bilateral relations. He said that Pakistan wants to work with Turkmenistan to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation. The President said that the current volume of trade between the two countries should increase for the mutual benefit of the two countries.
The President recalled his visit to Turkmenistan during his first presidency in 2010 to attend the TAPI Summit and the 4th Nauroze International Festival in 2013.
The Ambassador of Turkmenistan welcomed President Asif Ali Zardari during the election of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and former President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. He said this transit trade agreement is very important not only for the two friendly countries but also for the region.
The President expressed his wishes to the leaders of Turkmenistan and thanked them for congratulating him on his election.
