ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, President Dr. Arif Alvi underlined the necessity of strengthening the legal framework to promote financial accountability and more openness in government spending.
During his visit to the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP), the president stated during a meeting that automating government transactions and documenting the economy will enhance transparency.
The president was briefed by AGP Muhammad Ajmal Gondal regarding the function and performance of the position.
According to President Alvi, the AGP’s performance would increase with the adoption of contemporary technologies.
He emphasized the importance of educating the public on the functions, undertakings, and audit results of the AGP. He noted that in order to guarantee the prudent use of taxpayer funds and advance openness in government agencies, legislative monitoring was crucial.
The AGP’s contribution to increased parliamentary scrutiny and openness in the public sector was acknowledged by President Alvi. He said it was crucial for the Auditor General to find weaknesses and stabilize the government’s financial management system.
The president was briefed by Pakistan’s Auditor General about the institution’s involvement in the financial accountability process during the meeting.
“Actions are being taken to improve the effectiveness of the audit process by the office of the Auditor General of Pakistan.”
It was disclosed that during the fiscal year 2022–2023, the Auditor General had finished 95% of the compliance audits.
The meeting was informed that enhanced audit and accounting procedures will foster accountability, openness, and sound governance.
It was also advised that efforts were being made to integrate artificial intelligence techniques and cutting-edge technology platforms into the audit process.
The committee was also informed that the accounting process’s digitization had a positive impact on pension payments.
The president was informed that the institution’s performance has improved with the aid of digitization, directly benefiting the citizens.
