ST LUCIA: India captain Rohit Sharma became the highest run-scorer in T20Is in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match against Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Ground in St Lucia on Monday.
Sharma has now surpassed Azam who has scored 4,165 runs in 149 T20I innings at an impressive strike rate of 140.64 at an average of 32.10 and 4,145 runs in 116 innings at an average of 41.03 and a strike rate of 129.08.
The 37-year-old went on to complete a well-deserved century, but ended his innings after posting 92 for 41 with the help of seven fours and eight sixes from Yorker Mitchell Starc.
In that match, Sharma became the first batsman to hit 200 sixes in T20Is as he led the Australian bowlers to the cleaners. The right-handed batsman ended his innings after eight maximums to reach 203.
In the same match, the Indian opener became the most six-hitter in T20 World Cup history, overtaking David Warner (40) and Jos Buttler (43).
