COLOMBO: Angelo Mathews has been called up to the Sri Lanka T20I team for their three-match home series against Zimbabwe.
For their home series against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka has announced their 16-man Twenty20 International team. Mathews, who hasn’t played a Twenty20 International since 2021, is back.
With the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup rapidly approaching, Mathews gives Sri Lanka’s T20I team, which will see Hasaranga take the lead for the first time, more experience.
For the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, Mathews was called up to replace India. He is a part of a potent batting group that also includes Pathum Nissanka, vice captain Charith Asalanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, and Sadeera Samarawickrama, whose involvement is contingent on fitness.

Dasun Shanaka, Hasaranga, Kamindu Mendis, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Mathews are among the many all-round players in the team.
The pace attack is led by Dilshan Madushanka and Dushmantha Chameera and features the dynamic Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana.
In the spin department, Hasaranga is joined by Maheesh Theekshana and Akila Dananjaya, who, like Mathews, did not play a Twenty20 international match until 2021.
All three games of the series are scheduled to take place in Colombo starting on January 14.
