AUCKLAND: Shaheen Shah Afridi, the captain of Pakistan, shared his feelings after his country lost the opening Twenty20 international match against New Zealand by 46 runs on Friday at Eden Park in Auckland.
Shaheen seemed upbeat during the post-match presentation, despite the loss in his debut game as Pakistan’s T20I captain.
“Always happy to be the captain of your nation. Short boundaries for quick bowlers, but we played excellent cricket and it’s only the beginning. In the upcoming games, we’ll attempt to give it our all,” Afridi remarked.

“We need to improve our fielding skills as we made mistakes during the game,” he continued.
Saim Ayub, who started the Pakistani run-chase and scored 27 runs off just 8 balls, was also commended by Shaheen for his noteworthy performance.
“Saim Ayub played a good innings, you need to give them time, and we are planning for the World Cup and that’s a start,” he continued. “I think for us it’s a positive sign.”
