LAHORE: Fast bowler Shamar Joseph of the West Indies, who signed a contract with Peshawar Zalmi for the PSL, was assisted by his match-winning performance against Australia on Sunday at the Gabba.
It is anticipated that he would sign on with the team at the outset and play all tournament long.
Joseph will stay with Zalmi for the duration of the competition, even when Gus Atkinson comes, according to ESPNcricinfo, despite the fact that Zalmi touted Joseph as a partial substitute for the England fast bowler.
With the England Test team in India for the five-match series that concludes on March 11, Atkinson will be unavailable for every game except the playoffs.
The replacement and supplemental draft was not when the signing of Joseph was announced.
Zalmi declared at the time that they had brought in Atkinson to play the entire tournament in place of Afghan legspinner Noor Ahmed, who was also unavailable. However, Atkinson’s ongoing involvement with the Indian national team would have made that unfeasible, and Zalmi subsequently declared on social media that Joseph will take his position.
Other players signed by PSL teams in the supplementary and replacement draft for the ninth season included Haider Ali (Islamabad United), Johnson Charles (Multan Sultans), and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (Lahore Qalandars).
The PCB said in a statement that the draft, which was scheduled to replace a number of players injured or unable to compete, took place over a conference call.
The PSL gets underway at Gaddafi Stadium on February 17 and concludes with the final on March 18.
After leading the Caribbeans to their first test victory over Australia in 27 years, West Indies prodigy Shamar Joseph has been declared ineligible for his International League T20 (ILT20) assignment. Instead, he will return home to a hero’s welcome in Guyana.
Paceman Joseph was forced to retire hurt the night before after taking a toe-crushing yorker from Mitchell Starc, but he bounced back with an amazing seven wicket haul in the second innings of the eight-run upset at the Gabba on Sunday.
Instead of playing for the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20, the 24-year-old from the small Guyanese community of Baracara will head back home to enjoy a warm welcome in the Caribbean.
“With this happiness in my heart and thoughts, I’m returning home. I’m overjoyed,” remarked Joseph.
