All over the country including the provincial capital Peshawar patients and their keepers are facing double trouble due to shortage of life-saving medicines.
On the one hand patients are unable to buy medicines due to the increase of hundreds of percent. On the other hand distributors besides retailers have colluded and made these medicines disappear from the market. Which are being sold in black at some drug stores.
On which all the relevant institutions have kept quiet. The above mentioned business has been going on since the establishment of Pakistan against which political parties raise their voice in every government when they are in the opposition but when these parties have their own government then always good reports have given about that illegal business.
This is the reason as time goes by, this abuse of consumers is also increasing. It should be remembered that the relatives of the patients are facing severe difficulties due to the shortage of life-saving medicines and they are being sold in black.
In the local market the injection used in the chest disease of new-born children was being sold in black for RS.7500 rupees, while the price of the injection is 1500 rupees in the market.
There is a shortage of drugs used in diabetes, blood pressure, liver, epilepsy, TB, kidney and brain diseases across the province as well as Peshawar. Including epilepsy drug Carbamazepine tegral, blood pressure drug Amlodipine, the main drug used in gastrointestinal and urinary tract infection (Diloxanide furoate/Metronidazole Benzoate), drug used for mental diseases Acetazolamide BP for mental peace Alprazoiem and Lorazepam including sugar or kidneys.
There are numerous liver medicines which have been absent from the market for a long time due to which the patients are facing problems. In this regard, according to the owners of medical stores the pharmaceutical companies have reduced the supply of medicines in the market, demanding an increase in prices.
Due to which there has been shortage of medicines for blood pressure, sugar and heart diseases in the market. Complaining about it to the caretaker government is not enough. Readers know that every year the federal health department increases the prices of medicines with the connivance of pharmaceutical companies and distributors.
Due to which patients are not facing difficulties in buying life-saving medicines or antibiotics. Apart from that, the sale of very deprived and fake medicines in the market with similar names is also going on uncontrollably. Due to this process instead of getting healthy, patients are suffering from various disorders.
It is also a tragedy that all kinds of medicines are available for the treatment of one disease across the country. Which has made the physicians besides the patients hesitant as to which medicine to prescribe to their patients. On the other hand most of the famous doctors are also prescribing the most expensive and defective medicines to the patients for their heavy commission due to which the patients are not getting well even after the treatment.
The government is always keeping an eye on this whole situation with the relevant institutions and high officials but despite of that the above shameful business is flourishing and it has become a more profitable business than real estate. So there is a need to reasonable the prices of medicines at the first prospect, instead of just issuing statements on the part of the authority, practical actions should be taken.
After that, some elements selling fake and defective medicines should be taken seriously. Violators should be punished so that no one dares to play with human lives again. If the path of these disease-spreading elements in the society is not stopped, brutality will increase in the future.
Now we have to see what steps are taken by the higher authorities at the local and federal level to stop these atrocities in the medicine market.
