PARIS: Italian world number one Giannic Dosa has recovered from injury after suffering a 6-3 6-3 6-4 loss to American Christopher Eubanks in the first round of the French Open on Monday.
Australian Open champion Sinner withdrew from the Madrid Open and missed the Rome Masters with a groin injury, but Eubanks returned to form at Roland Garros when he cleared “My heart is kind, I am glad that my team and I are working as fast as possible to reach the court,” he said.
“Of course, the overall look is not 100% yet, so we are trying to build every day.”
The Italian led 4-1 before Eubanks broke again, but Sinner saw out the set with another break and needed only one break in each of the next two sets to reach the second round.
“Honestly, I’m glad to be back on the court, I was injured, so I’m glad to be back here,” Gunner said.
The Americans fought bravely until the end, forcing two breaks and Sinner serving for the game, but the Italians smile back after recovering under the roof of Suzanne Lenglen Court.
“Thanks to everyone, the support has been amazing, it’s the first time Suzanne has a roof over her head so I’m really happy,” Gunner said.
For the next two-and-a-half months, the world number one, who could be number one, will play the card of French Italian Richard Gasquet, hoping not to repeat last year when he reaches the next round.
“I know I have to improve some things, so I’m happy with my team. They push me every day and let’s see what we can achieve in the future,” said the Gunner.
“Also, the most important thing is to be happy on the court and I really like playing tennis, so I’m happy here.”
