The United States cruised to a seven-run victory in the 2024 World T20 opener against Canada at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday.
Canada set a target of 195 for the United States in the opening match after being batted first by the hosts.
United States’ Aaron Jones smashed 94 off 40 balls, including four fours and 10 maximums, as the hosts chased down 195 in just 17.4 overs.
USA went 42-2 in the seventh over with openers Steven Taylor (0) and Monank Patel (16) again at short.
However, Andriy Gous and Jones took over the innings at this stage and stitched a brilliant partnership of 131 off 58 balls.
Gous scored 65 off 46 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes.
Before that, USA ranked first after knocking off Canada. The latter posted 194 for the loss of five wickets.
Opener Navneet Dhaliwal and middle-order batsman Nicholas Kirton scored fifties for Canada to set the platform for the competitive total.
Dhaliwal scored 61 off 44 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes. Meanwhile, Kirton added 51 runs in 31 balls that included three fours and two maximums.
Shreyas Mowwa played an unbeaten 32 off 16 balls to push the innings back.
Ali Khan, Harmit Singh and Corey Anderson scored one goal each.
USA vs Canada is the oldest rivalry in cricket, the first international cricket match between these two sides was in 1844 in St. George’s Cricket Club in New York.
Canada and USA are in Group A of the T20 World Cup with India, Pakistan and Ireland.
