ISLAMABAD: Given the severe cold weather, snowfall, and security challenges around the country, the Upper House of Parliament has submitted a third motion to the Senate to postpone the general elections.
The resolution was proposed by Senator Hilalur Rehman of the Independent Parliamentary Group.

Resolution on the ongoing election campaign in several districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which is hindering citizens from voting in a safe atmosphere.
Request that the Election Commission postpone the election to a suitable date other than February 8, 2024.
The people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province are feeling disadvantaged in this regard, and especially candidates from erstwhile FATA are being hampered by security concerns, according to the resolution.
The Senate passed a motion on January 5th, presented by Senator Dilawar Khan, asking a delay in the February 8 general elections, citing security concerns.
Independent Senator Dilawar Khan stated that political leaders face security threats, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and that there are concerns about the security of political party candidates.
According to the resolution, intelligence services had issued a security alert for electoral rallies.
Senator Afnanullah Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz voted against the resolution.
On January 12th, former FATA independent senator Hidayatullah submitted a new motion for the postponement of general elections scheduled for February 8th, seeking the ECP to postpone votes for three months.
Hidayatullah of the Independent Parliamentary Group filed the resolution to the Senate Secretariat.
Senator Hidayatullah’s resolution also notes recent violent attacks in the country as well as an increase in incidences of election candidate targeting.
