LAHORE: Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram hopes the Indian cricket team will travel to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy to be held between February and March next year.
Pakistan and India have not played a bilateral series since 2013 and the Blues last traveled to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008.
However, Akram hopes that this time India will come to Pakistan and deliver a “good performance” for the entire team. He also said that the new chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Mohsin Naqvi is renovating the stadium.
“I hope India will come to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. The whole country is looking forward to welcoming all the teams. The cricket will be great and we will welcome them in a big way. We have good facilities and are working on a new stadium,” Akram told IANS.
“The president has started work on new stadiums in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad, so I believe it will be a good tournament and Pakistan needs this tournament to improve cricket and I hope all countries will come because cricket and politics should always be separate.
“Everything, everything is ready. The whole country is looking forward to receiving all the teams, dignitaries and media and I hope you have a great show in Pakistan,” said the former Pakistan captain. . “
India will have a total of 15 matches in the tournament to play all their matches in Lahore.
The event will mark the return of the ICC Champions Trophy after an eight-year hiatus, the last time in 2017, when Pakistan won the final by defeating India.
Confirmed teams for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy include Pakistan (host), India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Afghanistan, England and Bangladesh.
