Good mental health contributes to a balanced and fulfilling life, while mental health issues can affect thoughts, feelings, and behavior. It’s an essential aspect of overall health and is influenced by biological, environmental, and genetic factors. Good mental health is crucial for overall well-being, as it enables individuals to effectively cope with life’s challenges, form positive relationships, and contribute productively to society. When someone maintains their mental health, they are better equipped to handle stress, make informed decisions, and experience a higher quality of life. A resilient and balanced mental state not only fosters personal growth and fulfilment but also positively influences physical health, promoting a holistic sense of harmony and vitality. Beside good mental health Poor mental health is also prevalent in today’s young generation. Poor mental health can have far-reaching consequences, affecting various aspects of an individual’s life. It can impede daily functioning, strain relationships, and hinder productivity. Individuals experiencing poor mental health often struggle.
The impact of mental health on the young generation is complex, influenced by factors like social media, academic pressures, and societal expectations, cyberbullying, and the pervasive influence of social media. These factors can create a challenging environment that affects their emotional well-being.. Increased awareness is crucial for addressing and supporting mental health challenges among young people.
Mental health awareness and access to mental health services vary globally, and challenges persist in many countries, including Pakistan. In some places, there might be a stigma surrounding mental health issues, preventing open discussions and seeking help. Additionally, limited resources and infrastructure for mental health services can pose significant barriers.

Raising awareness about poor mental health involves fostering open conversations, sharing personal stories, and disseminating accurate information through various channels. Utilizing social media platforms, organizing community events, and collaborating with mental health organizations can help disseminate resources, reduce stigma, and promote understanding. Education programs in schools and workplaces can also play a vital role in increasing awareness, fostering empathy, and encouraging early intervention. By normalizing discussions around mental health, emphasizing the importance of seeking help, and dispelling misconceptions, individuals and communities can collectively contribute to creating a more supportive environment for those dealing with mental health challenges.
Poor mental health can contribute to suicide risk through a complex interplay of factors. Conditions like depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders can amplify feelings of hopelessness and despair, making it challenging for individuals to envision a way out of their struggles. Social isolation, stigma surrounding mental health issues, and a lack of accessible support may further exacerbate these feelings. In the digital age, cyberbullying and online pressures can also play a role. It’s crucial to recognize warning signs, such as withdrawal from social activities, dramatic mood swings, or expressions of feeling trapped, and to encourage open conversations about mental health. Timely intervention, professional support, and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health issues are essential in addressing and preventing suicide.

In 2012, the World Health Organisation (WHO) reported an estimated suicide rate of 7.5 per 100,000 individuals in Pakistan, translating to approximately 13,000 suicides, including teen suicides, that year.

Additionally, the pervasive influence of social media can contribute to unrealistic standards and increased stress, further emphasizing the need for comprehensive mental health education and support for the youth.
