ISLAMABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has launched a vigorous anti-gas theft campaign, culminating in the imposition of Rs 3.47 million in fines and the termination of 347 unauthorized connections. According to an SNGPL representative, the regional team’s measures included removing 13 connections for illegal gas use and 23 connections for compressor use. In Rawalpindi and Islamabad, 98 connections were severed owing to illicit gas use, resulting in fines of Rs 0.30 million in gas theft cases. Multan saw 25 connections turned off for illegal gas usage, with an additional 25 connections cut off for the use of compressors, resulting in fines of Rs 0.050 million for gas theft cases.

The regional team in Mardan responded by severing four gas lines and twelve compressor connections. Three connections in Sahiwal were severed owing to compressor use, and three connections in Faisalabad were severed for similar reasons. The city of Sheikhupura had 47 connections disconnected for illicit gas use, resulting in fines of Rs 0.03 million for gas theft cases. Furthermore, the regional team in Sargodha took action by severing a connection for illicit gas use.
